Removing membrane locking in quadratic NURBS-based discretizations of linear plane Kirchhoff rods: CAS elements

چکیده
NURBS-based discretizations suffer from membrane locking when applied to primal formulations of curved thin-walled structures. We consider linear plane Kirchhoff rods as a model problem study how remove discretizations. In this work, we propose continuous-assumed-strain (CAS) elements, an assumed strain treatment that removes quadratic NURBS for ample range slenderness ratios. CAS elements take advantage the C1 inter-element continuity displacement vector given by interpolate using Lagrange polynomials while preserving C0 strain. are first element type able broad ratios combines following characteristics: (1) No additional degrees freedom added, (2) systems algebraic equations need be solved, and (3) The nonzero pattern stiffness matrix is preserved. Since only computations required proposed evaluate derivatives basis functions unit tangent at knots, scheme barely increases computational cost with respect locking-prone discretization formulation. benchmark problems show convergence independent ratio local Bbar ANS depends heavily on ratio. numerical examples also spurious oscillations in stress resultants caused large-amplitude resultants.

Impact of Integration on Straining Modes and Shear-Locking for Plane Stress Finite Elements
Stiffness matrix of the four-node quadrilateral plane stress element is decomposed into normal and shear components. A computer program is developed to obtain the straining modes using adequate and reduced integration. Then a solution for the problem of mixing straining modes is found. Accuracy of the computer program is validated by a closed-form stiffness matrix, derived for the plane rectang...
متن کاملApplication of the linear Differential Equations on the Plane and Elements of Nonlinear Systems, In Economics
In recent years, it has become increasingly important to incorporate explicit dynamics in economic analysis. These two tools that mathematicians have developed, differential equations and optimal control theory, are probably the most basic for economists to analyze dynamic problems. In this paper I will consider the linear differential equations on the plane (phase diagram) and elements of nonl...
متن کاملRemoving broken locking bolts
Removal of broken locking bolts requires careful planning. The following tips facilitate the procedure and reduce operation time. Positioning the patient supine without traction allows optimal adduction. Early screw removal will leave the nail rotationally unstable; apply the jig beforehand. If direct palpation is not possible, access the end cap by a guided drill (Fig 1). Use screw holders (Fi...
متن کاملKirchhoff Rods with Nonhomogeneous Cross Section
The Kirchhoff’s theory for thin, inextensible, elastic rods with nonhomogeneous cross section is studied. The Young’s and shear moduli of the rod are considered to vary radially, and it is shown that an analytical solution for the constitutive relations can be obtained for circular cross section and constant Poisson’s ratio. We comment on possible applications of our results.
متن کاملQuadratic Velocity/linear Pressure Stokes Elements*
We study the finite element approximation of the stationary Stokes equations in the velocitypressure formulation using continuous piecewise quadratic functions for velocity and discontinuous piecewise linear functions for pressure. For some meshes this method is unstable, even after spurious pressure modes are removed. For other meshes there are spurious local pressure modes, but once they are ...
